Have you registered for Focus: The EW Conference yet? The early bird registration deadline is October 31. One of the most common questions we have been getting revolves around the education schedule. We are incredibly excited for this year’s schedule.  

This year, we are featuring two keynote speakers. Regina Hampton, MD, FACS, CMF will be presenting on Sunday, Feb. 9 on breast cancer and surgery updates. As a nationally known breast surgeon and also the CEO of Cherry Blossom Intimates, Dr. Hampton offers our members a unique clinical and business perspective of the industry.  

Julie Larson is a psychotherapist, speaker and educator who will be presenting on the emotional impact of caring. Mastectomy fitters handle clients when they are experiencing one of the roughest, emotional, and financially strapped times in their lives - and this occurs on a day-to-day basis for many businesses. How do you handle the emotional, mental and physical impact of this aspect of being a professional caregiver? Julie will present an interactive session on developing a mindset of wellness. 

The conference also features these courses: 

  • Minimum Metrics for Maximum Efficiency presented by Miriam Lieber: What metrics or goals is your business tracking to gauge your success? This session will discuss key metrics and key performance indicators that contribute to bottom line efficiencies in your business. 

  • The Anatomy of a Custom Breast Prosthesis presented by Nikki Giamarino: This interactive session will go through the creation of a custom breast prosthesis step-by-step. Common patient scenarios of post-surgical complications, individual skin tones, anatomical features where a custom prosthesis would be appropriate will be discussed. 

  • Legislative Update and Networking Lunch with Nikki Jensen: Back by popular demand, participate in a small group discussion about reimbursement, social media, Medicare questions, payer contracting, leadership, advocacy, credentialing and more. Nikki Jensen will also provide an update on legislation that matters to you, including the Breast Cancer Patient Equity Act, the Lymphedema Treatment Act and the Wig Bill. 

  • Better Fitting Custom Garments with New Lymphedema Scanning Technology Delivers Enhanced Treatment Results presented by Bryan Groleau: New scanning technology was recently developed to be used with custom lymphedema garments. Learn about lymphedema, proper garment selection and get hands-on experience with this new technology. 

  • CBD 101: What is CBD and Should I Sell It? presented by Greg McGough: CBD is one of the hottest trends in the industry. Learn about what CBD is, differences between CBD and THC, how to select a vendor, and how to sell it in your business.  

  • Advanced Fitting Solutions for the Experienced Fitter presented by Beth Erdy and Bryan Schloss: This session will review the different types of breast cancer surgeries, bra and breast form shapes and profiles and fitting for the patient’s shape. It will also include examples of challenging cases including before and after reconstruction and feature new postoperative solutions. 

  • Marketing Best Practices Panel Discussion moderated by Lindy Tentinger: Many companies operate with a small staff and marketing initiatives are too often placed on the “maybe someday list.” Other companies do not allocate enough money to support marketing efforts that potentially increase their overall revenues. Join us for a conversation about successful marketing strategies and techniques from a variety of perspectives. 

  • Problems and Solutions with Reimbursement and Payer Contracts presented by Ronda Buhrmester and Craig Douglas: Ronda and Craig will conduct a reimbursement analysis of the most common misconceptions about documentation and billing that have become habit through lack of clear guidance and using old techniques because that is how things were always done. Arm yourself with the necessary tools to ensure you will receive timely and accurate reimbursement for qualified customers. 

  • Purpose Driven Retail Workshop presented by Brandon Noble: With various retail options available, your customers expect a positive and healthy marketing message to propel them forward in their recovery. This interactive session will discuss the products, customer experience, financials and marketing efforts you can use within your boutiques to promote an overall wellness concept to increase your bottom line.
