A recent study found that 60% of women reported that they don't have sufficient break time or space to pump breast milk. Until recently, employer liability for breastfeeding discrimination was rare; but that is changing fast. Although the overall number of lawsuits remains small compared to other types of employment claims, breastfeeding discrimination lawsuits have grown rapidly in recent years, by 800% in just a decade, according to Harvard Business Review's study from the Center for Work Life Law at the University of California, Hastings Law. It's important for companies to know what the law requires of them for breastfeeding accommodations and how they can be proactive to provide the time and space to allow new mothers to pump.
