Photographer's Images of a Breast Cancer Survivor with a Double Mastectomy are Banned from Facebook

Home Blog Photographer's Images of a Breast Cancer Survivor with a Double Mastectomy are Banned from Facebook

A Western Australia-based photographer who shared emotional images of a breast cancer survivor and her botched double mastectomy on Facebook was shocked when she was banned from Facebook. The surgeon left her with large raised scars on her breasts. The photographer recently took boudoir photos of the woman and her scars as a way for the person to heal emotionally. The breast cancer survivor cried every time she saw the pictures because she couldn't believe she could actually be beautiful.

When the pictures were posted on Facebook, Facebook banned them and blocked the photographer for 24 hours. She attempted to repost them and was banned immediately for 3 days. If she attempts again, the bans will start at 1 week, to 1 month and could even become permanent. Facebook's rules state that mastectomy scars are allowed to be published. However, this is just another example of how Facebook's automated system of checking content is not working.
