With social media feeds full of lavish “me time” get-a-ways, spa-quality bubble baths and exceptionally plated cuisine, it’s no wonder people have begun to associate self-care with indulgence and perfection. In a society where schedules are jammed packed, who has time for such luxuries?

In actuality, wellness and self-care don’t have to be all bath bombs and rose water. Furthermore, our health (physical, mental and emotional) should be a prominent focus in our day to day lives. Where do you start? Here are 5 easy suggestions to work self-care into your daily routine!

Be kind to yourself

It’s no secret, we are often our own worst critics; but can a few negative thoughts really influence your health? Studies show that negative self-talk can have a significant impact on your overall well-being. What messages are you telling yourself? The next time an opportunity for criticism arises, exercise a little grace and notice a shift in both your perspective & mood.

Make Your Health a Priority

Increase your water intake. Commit to 30 minutes of daily physical activity. Limit sugars and processed foods. Small changes can have a huge impact! Self-care encompasses leading a healthy lifestyle, with wellness coming from the inside out.

Treat Yourself

When is the last time you did something nice for yourself? Create a habit of gifting yourself items that add value to your life. Even if your gift is as simple as carving time out of your schedule to have a moment of solitude, it's important that your gift holds significance and meaning. Splurge; you’re worth it!

Slow Down

Feeling burned out? In the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, it’s easy to get consumed with checking items off of a to-do list. When you feel the steam beginning to build, take a moment to gather your thoughts and refocus on the heart of the matter. Mindful living encourages you to be deliberate and intentional in your actions, focusing on what’s important and not sweating the small stuff.

Celebrate Yourself (and others!)

Take a moment to celebrate lessons learned and goals accomplished! Find joy in everyday triumphs and acknowledge each effort made.

Self-care doesn’t have to be extravagant or feel pretentious. It’s essential that we be in tune with our needs to assure that we lead healthy, happy, and full lives. These tips will help you incorporate self-care into your life to create healthy new habits and attitudes. How will you apply the practice of self-care?
